Pre-clinical work carried out at RAFT before the formation of SML suggested that the Smart Matrix® USP was its ability to bring together all the physical features of the extracellular matrix required to support cellular processes seen in wound healing and provide support for this to happen for much larger wounds than the body can ordinarily cope with by itself.
Following analysis of the first available clinical data for Smart Matrix® in 2015, a new and detailed wound healing study was instigated to assess Smart Matrix® without the use of a skin graft and also to assess the efficacy of Smart Matrix® in comparison with other benchmark wound healing products currently on the market.
In addition, further pre-clinical analysis is currently being undertaken at RAFT which is looking at the viability of using Smart Matrix® to close larger wounds without a skin graft in conjunction with surface skin enhancers, such as keratinocytes. This initially comprises detailed in vitro lab testing.
